Problem Note 56925: The SAS® Deployment Manager reports a failure for the Run Post-Update Tasks stage of configuration

Problem

When you use the SAS Deployment Manager to update the configuration, a failure might be reported during the Run Post-Update Tasks stage.

When the problem occurs, the SAS Deployment Manager displays the following error:

When you examine the cfgwizard_postapplyUpdate_yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss.log, you might find the error shown here:

Caused by: /sas/sas94/software/SASDeploymentManager/9.4/products/cfgwizard__94360__prt__xx__sp0__1/Config/cfgwizard_config.xml:5233: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

Cause

This problem occurs when the Java heap size is not large enough for the SAS Deployment Manager to complete processing the UpdateInstructions.html after the software configuration update has been completed.

Workaround

When the problem described here occurs, the configuration update of your SAS software has already been completed and is not impacted. However, the UpdateInstructions.html file contains incomplete information because it was still being processed by the SAS Deployment Manager when the failure happened.

To work around the Java heap OutOfMemoryError, do the following:

  1. Start the SAS Deployment Manager from the command line and specify a larger Xmx value for the heap size, as shown in this example.

    2. For UNIX operating environments: ./sasdm.sh -javaoptions "-Xmx2048M" &

    For Windows operating environments: "C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASDeploymentManager\9.4\sasdm.exe" -javaoptions "-Xmx2048M"


  2. Next, select the task Update Existing Configuration and follow the remaining prompts.

  3. Verify that the SAS Deployment Manager completes the configuration update and no longer reports the error described in this SAS Note.

This problem is resolved in the SAS 9.4 TS1M3, Rev. 940_15w47 software.
